Devin Zuber is Associate Professor of American Studies, Religion, and Literature at the GTU in Berkeley. He has published widely on nineteenth-century American art and literature, and the relation between spirituality and contemporary art. His last book, *A Language of Things*, traced the appearance of environmental imaginaries in American aesthetics, beginning with the itinerant figure of Johnny Appleseed. Currently on sabbatical (2021-2022) at the Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), Devin is developing a new book project on esoteric cartographies in the San Francisco Renaissance: the ways that mid-century Bay Area countercultures drew on alternative spiritualities for various poetics of place
